Grey Bruce Public Health is advising the public that test results from water samples taken Thursday, July 30, at Kincardine’s Station Beach and Point Clark Beach in Huron-Kinloss Township, show bacterial levels have returned to within the guidelines established by Ontario’s Ministry of Health as safe for swimming/bathing.
As a result, public health has lifted the swim advisories for the two beaches, which were put in place, Wednesday.
“This is great news, especially heading into a long weekend," says senior public health manager Andrew Barton. "We extend our thanks to the residents and visitors who adhered to the swimming advisories.
“We also remind the public that you should always use your best judgement before swimming or allowing children to play in the water as water quality can change from day-to-day or even hour-to-hour depending on the weather and other conditions. Even if a beach is not posted as unsafe for swimming, you should assess the water’s condition in real-time and avoid swimming if you can’t see your feet in waist-deep water or 24-48 hours after heavy rainfall.”
Station Beach and Point Clark Beach were posted as unsafe for swimming July 29, after routine water-sampling results showed bacterial levels exceeding health ministry standards for swimming/bathing.
People who swim, play in, or use beach water with high bacterial levels are at an increased risk of getting sick or an infection.
