Kincardine residents interested in running for municipal council or school board trustee in the Oct. 26 election, must file their nomination papers with their local municipality by Friday, Aug. 21, at 2 p.m.
Eligible candidates can file nomination papers with their local municipal clerk during regular business hours until the Nomination Day deadline. Candidates are encouraged to contact their local municipality or visit their local municipal website for nomination forms, election information, and to schedule an appointment to file their papers.
Candidates should be aware of the following requirements:
Nomination papers must be filed with the applicable municipal clerk by 2 p.m., Nomination Day, Friday, Aug. 21, 2026.
Municipal council candidates must submit Form 2 – Endorsement of Nomination signed by at least 25 eligible voters.
Candidates must be registered before spending money on their campaign or accepting campaign contributions.
A filing fee of $200 for head of council candidates and $100 for all other offices, is required when submitting nomination papers.
Candidates must meet the eligibility requirements to run for municipal office and are encouraged to confirm their eligibility before filing nomination papers. For more information, visit your local municipal election website or contact your municipal clerk.
Following Nomination Day, municipal clerks will review all submitted nominations and will determine whether each candidate meets the qualifications and requirements under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996. Candidates whose nominations are certified will be eligible to run in the election. Those whose nominations are rejected will be notified.
The 2026 municipal and school board election will take place across all municipalities in the Province of Ontario. Voting in municipalities in Bruce County will be conducted using an Internet and telephone voting system; paper ballots will not be used.
The voting period will open Monday, Oct. 19, and close Monday, Oct. 26, at 8 p.m. Residents are encouraged to vote early.

Kincardine council consists of the mayor, deputy mayor, three councillors-at-large, two Ward 1 (former Town of Kincardine) councillors, one Ward 2 (former Kincardine Township) councillor, and one Ward 3 (former Bruce Township) councillor.
As of Aug. 4, there is a race for mayor between incumbent Kenneth Craig of Kincardine and Ward 2 councillor Bill Stewart of Inverhuron.
Incumbent councillor-at-large Rory Cavanagh of Kincardine is running for deputy mayor.
Incumbent councillor-at-large Mike Hinchberger of Kincardine is running for re-election and newcomer Darrel Perry of Kincardine is running for councillor-at-large.
Russ Crook of Kincardine is running for Ward 1.
Kyle McKay of Concession 5, Kincardine, and Michael Ferrier of Highway 9, Kincardine, are running for Ward 2.
Incumbent Ward 3 councillor Amanda Steinhoff-Gray of Tiverton is running for re-election.
Also filing nominations, are Lori Di Castri, incumbent local trustee with the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board; Jan Johnstone of Kincardine, incumbent Bluewater District School Board trustee for Kincardine and Huron-Kinloss; and Eric Lapointe of Barrie, local French-language public district school board trustee.
