Summer is winding down quickly and now that everyone is back to school again, we'll all get back to a routine?! Thank you to all the teachers, bus drivers, and school staff who look after our young people everyday!
Did you know that Sept. 9 was National Emergency Services Day? So, another thank you to all our police, fire, ambulance, emergency hospital staff, dispatchers, drivers, and medical support staff who work all hours of day and night to look after us! We are very blessed, indeed, to live in Canada and access the health care system that is on call for us.
Many of us have been reflecting on the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and have recalled memories of that day and the events of the weeks that followed. It is good to remember and learn from our history.
Thank you, again, to the Ripley Legion for the great hamburgers and gatherings on Friday evening!
Happy Birthday to Andrew Courtney, Cole Van Dyke, Payton Murray, Jerry Logtenberg and Lynn Courtney who just celebrated his 75th birthday! Congratulations, also, to some of our Purple Grove residents - Janet and Wayne Nixon, Andrew and Diane MacDonald, Sharon and Alec Martin, Jim and Fran Farrell, and Paul and Carrie Murray, who all celebrate their wedding anniversaries in September!
Congratulations to Greg Reid and Jamie Neilson who were married Sept. 5 at Charleston Provincial Park! Marilyn, Brian and Jo Reid and other family spent most of the Labour Day weekend at the campground, enjoying the beach, fishing, and trails, and the weather was perfect. The Charleston Provincial Park is situated in the Kingston and Brockville area.
Congratulations, also, to Jack Farrell and Kristen MacKinnon who were married in the beautiful gardens at the home of Rob and Carolyn Farrell near Rockwood, Sept. 12!
Audrey and John Smith, formerly of Purple Grove and now living near Kingston, recently spent some time visiting with Mary Anne Kukoly and Kincardine-area friends.
Bren de Leeuw, Fran Farrell, Robyn Bridge and Diane Clifford attended the International Plowing Match volunteer orientation night on the IPM site. There are 1,600 volunteers for the IPM which is scheduled to run from Tuesday, Sept. 22, to Saturday, Sept. 26. If you are planning to attend, please stop by the Quilt Tent and say hello!
Fran Farrell and Bren de Leeuw attended the Ladies of Saugeen Shores Women's Institute meeting in Port Elgin this week. The guest speaker was Laura Evans of the Arthritis Society in Owen Sound. It was a very informative session!
Bren de Leeuw was honoured to be the guest speaker at Kinloss-Kairshea W.I. in Lucknow. She shared up-to-date information on their Ukrainian family and some of their cultures and traditions.
Bren and Harvey de Leeuw enjoyed dinner with friends – Brian and Tamara Plume – of Mount Forest.
Many of our local 4-H members in the dairy and beef clubs have been attending local fairs over the weekend again! Owen Sound, Mildmay, and Paisley fairs were just three of the fairs in our area and well-attended with the great weather, displays, educational exhibits, livestock competitors and entertainment for everyone! Thank you and congratulations to the many executive, volunteers and exhibitors who help make our communities thrive and grow!

Our mammoth parade will take place Saturday, Sept. 26, at 11:30 a.m. Any floats must arrive at the starting point (Ripley soccer fields) no later than 11 a.m.
Our 2026 Assist Expo is live! You may have noticed our fair books no longer carry our paper home craft forms. This is because we are trying to switch to a paperless system. Our Wild Wild West teen dance is Thursday, Sept. 24, from 7-9 p.m. There is a $5 admission fee, and snacks and drinks are available for purchase!
