For the fourth year in a row, Knox Presbyterian Church, Kincardine, is holding a Winter Coat Drive, assisting those in need of adequate outerwear for a Bruce County winter.
Organizer Wendy Cox urges people to ransack their closets for anything they're not using that would keep a person warm through the snowy season. Many people need help because their budget is already stretched by the cost of housing in the area and the galloping increase in basic groceries.
Donations of gently-used warm winter coats, hats, mitts/gloves, scarves, ski pants, boots, etc., can be dropped off during normal business hours, at West Shore Clothing and Surf Shop and Little Beginnings Daycare and Learning Centre in downtown Kincardine, from now until Oct. 22.
Free distribution will take place at Knox Church, Thursday, Oct. 22, from 6-9 p.m., and Friday, Oct. 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Following the distribution, the church will keep some items on hand in case of future need. Other items will be shared with the United Way of Bruce Grey for free distribution, where needed, across its catchment area.
This year Knox has partnered with the Aecon Group which is holding an internal clothing drive for the benefit of its neighbours, and will bring its collection to the church for distribution.
