Dick Richards, formerly of Lucknow, dies at the age of 82

Dick Richards of North Gower, Ottawa, formerly of Lucknow, died peacefully, Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026, at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, at the age of 82.

Survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Mary-Lou; daughter, Colleen (Bryan); and son, Daniel.

Also sorely missed by his grandchildren, Evelyn and Tristan; sister, Jean-Anne Murray; his nieces and nephew; and many friends and relatives in Lucknow.

Predeceased by parents, Clara (MacDonald) and Orland; brother, George; and niece, Shelly.

Born March 26, 1944, in Lucknow, Dick grew up on the family farm. He graduated from University of Guelph and went on to a career at Statistics Canada after relocating to Ottawa in the early 1970s. He returned to Lucknow every August and attended the MacDonald reunion for decades.

Dick was a prolific reader, largely on the subject of history, bluegrass music and motorsports. He also enjoyed writing, contributing editorials to the newspaper and at one time, had a column reviewing albums for Bluegrass Canada magazine. Happiest working outdoors, Dick always looked forward to planting his large garden every year.

The funeral will be Monday, Sept. 21, 2026, at 11 a.m., at Pinecrest Cemetery, Ottawa, followed by a reception.
