As our 2026 Poppy Campaign approaches, we need your help! Sign-up sheets are now posted on the bulletin board at the branch for three volunteer opportunities: stuffing envelopes Thursday, Oct. 15 (starting at 9 a.m.), delivering poppy boxes to local businesses Friday, Oct. 23, and tagging Saturday, Oct. 24. Please add your name to the sheets, as every pair of hands makes a difference.
Our Branch 183 Ceremonies of Remembrance will be held Sunday, Nov. 8, at 2 p.m., in Tiverton at Tiverton Lions Memorial Park, and Wednesday, Nov. 11, in Kincardine, where the service will take place at 10 a.m. in the Legion Hall, with the wreath-laying ceremony to follow at the Cenotaph.

If any local businesses or individuals wish to purchase and place a Wreath of Remembrance at one or both of these ceremonies, we are offering wreaths at $65 each. All wreaths will be labelled and announced by our MC as they are presented. Please reach out to our poppy chairperson, Jackie Tomajko, at jackietomajko.183@gmail.com, to ask for our easy order form, and instructions on how to E-transfer the funds, if you are interested. If you are looking for poppy-related items, there is quite a selection on the Poppy Store site at www.poppystore.ca.

As well, don't forget that Branch 183 will be sponsoring a week of activities at the Davidson Centre during the week of Remembrance Day, Nov. 8-14. We will be doing three public skates, a public swim, and the whole week of after-school drop-in gym times.

Congratulations to our September Kin Cares 50/50 draw grand prize winner, Marty Furnivall, who won the $8,085 jackpot. Our October draw is now underway, and the jackpot is already approaching $9,000. The first Early Bird draw happens tomorrow (Friday, Oct. 9) at 4 p.m. Tickets are on sale until Saturday, Oct. 31 — on-line until 11:59 p.m. — at kincares5050.ca, in person at the branch, and now also at the Grey Matter Beer Company. Proceeds support our veterans and the hospital expansion.

The Saturday Meat Draw spread the love around, with eight different winners taking home meat prizes, which are now supplied by Beefway. Congratulations to Rick, Jill, Mary, Cathy, Stephanie, Kathleen, Heather and Charlie! And a big congratulations to Marianne Parkin, who pocketed the 50/50 prize of $134.

Attention Veterans! The zone commander has chosen Sunday, Oct. 25, for this fall's Veterans Lunch, to be held at Branch 140 in Clinton. Doors open at 11 a.m. for registration, with the opening ceremony at noon. The cost is $15, and dress is Legion uniform if you have one, or equivalent civilian attire. This event is open to all veterans and their spouses or caregivers. You do not have to be a Legion member to attend.

A friendly reminder that Early Bird Membership Renewal is still going strong. Congratulations to Sherry Roumey, who paid her 2027 Membership dues in September and won four tickets to our Duelling Pianos Fund-raiser for the BUILDKD-plus Campaign. Get your renewal done before the end of November for just $55. That's $10 off the regular price, and you'll be entered into our next draw, which is for two tickets to our New Year's Eve party featuring Adam Cousins. You can renew on-line or simply pop into the branch bar to pay in person. Veterans, please note: to receive your $50 veteran renewal rate, renew at the branch or by E-transfer to kincardinelegion@gmail.com, since the on-line system charges the full $55. If you have any questions, just ask our membership chairperson, Kim.

The Duelling Pianos event is tomorrow night (Oct. 9) and is sold out! This should be a fantastic evening for a great cause, the BUILDKD-plus Campaign. If you're coming, please bring along some cash for song requests: every dollar goes right back to the campaign. Have fun, everyone!

Thanks to everyone who came out for Trivia Night last Friday. Team Witches Brew came out on top of this fun-filled night. Our next Trivia Night is Friday, Nov. 6, and sign-up starts Monday, Oct. 26, at the Legion Bar.
