Purple Grove news

October continues to be a beautiful month and every drive out and about the country leads to more places to explore! Our local bake shops, with their selection of yummy treats and market stands, have lovely pumpkins, apples and vegetables for all your grocery needs - right here at home! Winnie the Pooh is 100 years old! Many of us remember listening to those stories and reading them to our children and grandchildren.

Oct. 15th was also International Day of Rural Farm Women. Thanks to our women farmers and all farmers!

Congratulations to Cameron Lamont and Mia Kikkert who were married Oct. 2 at Bethel Christian Reformed Church, Listowel. The reception was held at the Belmore Community Centre.

Belated Birthday greetings to Sheridan Conley, Dayna Van Dyke, Sharon Stein, Ileene Clark, Kelly Anne Smith, Robyn Thompson, Diane Oczkowski and Fern Kragt!

Wedding anniversaries celebrated this past week, were Garry and Laura Farrell at 50 years and Rob and Carolyn Farrell at 35 years. Brian and Christine Bridge will celebrate their anniversary next week!

We extend our sympathy to the families of Louise Bursey of Kincardine and John Schnarr of Hanover. We also received news that Jack Colwell of Kelowna, British Columbia (B.C.), died last week. Jack was raised near the Village of Holyrood and moved to B.C. for his working career. We extend sympathy to his family and friends across Canada.

Our get well wishes to those involved in accidents this past week and to the families supporting them.

Carman and Cheryl Bridge, Diana and Ron Ellis spent Thanksgiving at the trailer of Wendy and Jim Hooisma, which backs onto the river canal at Fisherman's Cove. They enjoyed a barbecue with all the trimmings and cake for dessert, and ended with a campfire while watching the wildlife and birds with the autumn foliage mirroring off the water. What a special day.

Tuesday, Cheryl Bridge and her sisters, Diana and Wendy, enjoyed an outing to Listowel to celebrate Diana's birthday, returning back to Wendy's home in Hanover. A beautiful drive through the countryside with the autumn foliage in full splendour.

Bren and Harvey de Leeuw, Robyn and Brandon Rundle, Becca and Thomas Farrell and family enjoyed a Thanksgiving breakfast in Port Elgin with Bren's sister and brother-in-law, Deb and Ken McCulloch; brother, James Pope; niece, Olivia Pope; and parents, Henry and Jackie Pope, all of Port Elgin.
