Grey Bruce Public Health appoints new directors

Grey Bruce Public Health has announced the appointment of two new directors who will join the organization’s senior leadership team.

Lindsay Johnston will serve as the director of community health, while Jillian Fenik will serve as director of health protection.

Both Johnston and Fenik bring extensive public health experience, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to building healthy communities, to the new director roles.

Johnston’s work experience includes serving as manager of Grey Bruce Public Health’s vaccine preventable diseases program and holding leadership positions with the Grey Bruce Ontario Health Team.

Fenik has worked in public health for nearly three decades. She spent 25 years with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, which included 19 years as the organization’s manager of infectious diseases, sexual health, and harm reduction.

“I am excited to welcome both Lindsay Johnston and Jillian Fenik to the Grey Bruce Public Health team," said Dr. Brittany Graham, medical officer of health and chief executive officer (CEO). "Their expertise, experience, perspective, and passion for the Grey-Bruce community will be incredible assets to the senior leadership team and the entire organization.”

The appointments come at an exciting time for Grey Bruce Public Health.

A newly-appointed board of health was established and has been meeting regularly since July, after decision-making authority was returned to the local level. In August, Graham was named to the permanent position of medical officer of health and CEO, after serving in an acting capacity in the role since April.

Dr. Eileen de Villa is currently serving as acting medical officer of health and CEO during Graham’s parental leave, which is expected to last until summer, 2027.

Grey Bruce Public Health announced in August that the organization is transitioning to a leadership model with director-level positions.

This change aims to strengthen strategic direction, improve leadership capacity, and support the consistent delivery of public health programs and services, while fostering strong collaboration with the board of health and community organizations.

Grey Bruce Public Health looks forward to the expertise and leadership these two new directors bring as the organization works alongside the board, community partners, and residents to build healthier communities.
