The Kincardine Theatre Guild has welcomed seven new cast members to the production of "The Sound of Music," set to open Friday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m., at the Kincardine Arts Centre.
These newcomers are youth and adults, including Charlotte Stock as Gretl, Ellie Peters as Marta, Malcolm Scott as Rolf, Claire Miller as Leisl, Lauren Eby as a Nun, Katie Taylor as a Novice Nun, and Cameron Barrie as Franz the von Trapp family's butler.
CHARLOTTE STOCK
Charlotte Stock, 8, of Kincardine goes to St. Anthony's School, and plays the part of the youngest of von Trapp family, Gretl. She enjoys singing and has watched a number of plays, and thought it would be fun to audition.
"I'm very excited," she says, "but I'm also a bit nervous."
She likes the singing and dancing, and is looking forward to opening night, as is her family.
Charlotte takes piano lessons and thinks she would like to be an actor.
ELLIE PETERS
Ellie Peters, 9, of Kincardine goes to Huron Heights Public School, and plays the part of Marta von Trapp. She auditioned for the play because she likes musicals.
"Playing Marta is a lot of fun," she says, "and my Mom (Jenn Peters) is playing the part of Maria. I'm enjoying this very much."
She likes reading and figure skating, and has two cats and one brother.
MALCOLM SCOTT
Malcolm Scott, 15, of Kincardine is in Grade 10 at Kincardine District Senior School (KDSS), and plays the part of Rolf Gruber. He has performed in musicals at KDSS and was asked to audition by the show's music director Joy King.
"I felt like doing something more serious than the shows at KDSS," he says, "something more intense. As Rolf, I have one major song in the whole play."
He would like to continue acting with the theatre guild. Meanwhile, he just got the lead of Orpheus in this year's KDSS musical, "Hades Town."
Malcolm enjoys playing volleyball and is in the band at KDSS. He wants to be a doctor, like his mother.
CLAIRE MILLER
Claire Miller, 18, of Port Elgin, goes to St. Mary's High School in Owen Sound, and plays the part of Leisl von Trapp. She has performed in a lot of shows at the Roxy in Owen Sound and at St. Mary's. Two years ago, she was Maria in "The Sound of Music" at her high school.
"I love 'The Sound of Music'," she says, "and I wanted to do a play during the winter term. My friend has performed with the Kincardine Theatre Guild and said it was amazing."
She says her character is a lot of fun, in particular performing "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" with Malcolm Scott. "The singing, dancing and acting are all so cool."
Claire is auditioning for musical theatre schools in Toronto, Oakville, Windsor, and Edmonton, Alberta, as well as acting schools in Toronto. "I would love to be a theatre actor and singer."
She enjoys drawing and art, and has an older sister who is studying environmental engineering.

LAUREN EBY
Lauren Eby, 30, of Kincardine works in the Bruce County economic development department, and plays the part of a Nun.
"I love 'The Sound of Music,' and my friends, Cameron Barrie and Katie Taylor, and I decided we would audition for the show," she says. "I'm glad I did because I love it! The singing and dancing are great. I'm singing in Latin and dancing a waltz!
"I'm also interested in what's happening behind the scenes. How the show all comes together. It's been seamless. The people at the theatre guild are so welcoming, friendly and helpful. It's been a great experience and I would definitely like to do another show."
Her sister, Rachel, a nun in play and has been on stage before - she's excited to show her older sister the ropes!
KATIE TAYLOR
Katie Taylor, 30, of Kincardine is a teacher at KDSS, and is playing the part of a Novice Nun.
Two years ago, she assisted Michelle Mayer with the KDSS play, "Chicago." Music director Joy King suggested Taylor audition for "The Sound of Music" so she did, along with her friends, and they are all in the show.
"It's been fabulous," she says. "Everyone is so supportive - especially of the newbies. I sing harmony with a group of nuns and it's been a bit challenging, but as an adult, it's important to try something new. I find it hilarious that I'm in some scenes with my high school students!"
She is helping with this year's KDSS musical, "Hades Town."
CAMERON BARRIE
Cameron Barrie, 35, of Kincardine is a teacher at KDSS and is playing the part of Franz Schmidt, the von Trapp family's butler. He decided to audition because he had seen a lot of plays and decided it was time to try out, along with his friends.
He finds the part of Franz quite interesting and a lot of fun, and likes the fact he has very little singing or dancing in the show.
"My character has a lot of lines," says Barrie, "and a lot of those lines cue others. I've had to learn where to be on stage and to make the movements look natural, and I need to have a more powerful voice."
He enjoys playing hockey and is helping out with this year's KDSS musical. He also has a dog, a three-year-old cross between a golden retriever and a springer spaniel.
