Kincardine Youth Waves receives donation from Society of Energy Professionals
The Society of Energy Professionals has donated $4,000 to Kincardine Youth Waves, a coalition committed to ensuring all local youth are healthy, engaged and contributing members of the Municipality of Kincardine.

Lori Harding, co-chairperson of the organization, said the donation will be used to send 30 local youth to the IMPACT! Youth Summit in Hanover at the end of May.

Youth Waves is committed to supporting families, building assets and mobilizing the community which it hopes to designate a youth-friendly community.

The goal is to make youth feel welcomed, embraced and encouraged to be active members of the community. To that end, Harding said the plan is to establish a youth-friendly drop-in centre in the community, modelled after the Fusion Centre in Ingersoll.

Other parts of the action plan include: funding and co-ordinating a youth worker in the community; organizing and implementing a youth council for the community; and facilitating transportation alternatives for youth.

The Youth Waves coalition meets every month. The meetings are open to adult mentors and youth participants, and are used to communicate and update Youth Waves initiatives and strategies.

The coalition can be reached at kincardineyouthwaves@gmail.com or 519-396-7240.

Mike Gade (C) of the Society of Energy Professionals, presents a $4,000 donation to Kincardine Youth Waves, represented by Dom Jackson (L), South Bruce OPP constable Kevin Martin, KDSS principal Mark Ozorio, youth Delage Mowle, treasurer Gillian Anderson, youth Emma Pfeffer, co-chairperson Lori Harding and KDSS vice-principal Suzanne Kennedy
