Township taxpayers shell out more than $155,000 in council remuneration for 2015

Huron-Kinloss taxpayers shelled out a total of $155,307.02 in council remuneration for 2015, up significantly from the $137,386.28 paid out the year before. Plus $708.98 for the property standards committee, for a total of $156,016.
 

Township treasurer Jodi MacArthur presented the report at the committee-of-the-whole meeting Monday morning (March 7), outlining the total cost for council members' salaries and per diems, plus expenses.
 

  • Mayor Mitch Twolan received a total of $44,137.06, including salary and per diems of $32,474.03, and expenses of $11,663.03
  • Deputy mayor Wilfred Gamble was paid $28,130.29, including $25,140.59 in salary and per diems, and $2,989.70 in expenses
  • Councillor Lillian Abbott received a total of $18,302.80, including $16,572.05 in salary and per diems, and $1,730.75 in expenses
  • Councillor Jeff Elliott was paid $16,610.13, including $15,598.13 in salary and per diems, and $1,012 in expenses
  • Councillor Jim Hanna received $14,822, including $14,137.25 in salary and per diems, and $684.75 in expenses
  • Councillor Don Murray was paid $16,819.65, including $15,760.45 in salary and per diems, and $1,059.20 in expenses
  • Councillor Carl Sloetjes received $16,485.09, including $15,257.59 in salary and per diems, and $1,227.50 in expenses
     

Gamble also received $1,078.90, including $655 in salary and per diems and $423.90 in expenses, for serving on the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA), which is paid by the SVCA; and $726 in salary and per diems for serving on the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA), paid by the MVCA.

In addition, the following individuals were paid for service on the property standards committee:
 

  • Leo Murray, $150 in salary and per diems, plus $34.68 in expenses, for a total of $184.68
  • Brian Murray, $75 in salary and per diems, plus $9.90 in expenses, for a total of $84.90
  • Doug Aitchison, $150 in salary and per diems, plus $31.70 in expenses, for a total of $181.70
  • Elmer Smeltzer, $150 in salary and per diems, plus $32.70 in expenses, for a total of $182.70
  • Audrey MacDonald, $75 in salary and per diems
