Huron OPP report Goderich man arrested; encourage neighbours to watch out for neighbours

POLICE CALLED TO DISTURBANCE AT MOTEL

(GODERICH, ON) -  An incident that took place at a local motel this past weekend has resulted in a 37-year-old Goderich man arrested and charged with several criminal offences.

Just before 1 a.m., Sunday, March 6, Huron County OPP officers responded to a Bayfield Road motel after the manager called police, reporting problems with a customer in the front lobby.

The manager attempted to process the room rental transaction with a credit card that had been supplied by an acquaintance of the accused. The credit card was declined and the manager refused to rent them a room. At that point, the accused began yelling and screaming at the manager and began throwing things around the lobby.

The manager tried to call police from the lobby, but the irate customer then assaulted the manager and tried to prevent the manager from calling police. The manager had to leave the lobby in order to call police. The upset customer then left the lobby and slammed the door behind him so hard it caused minor damage to both the door and door frame.

Within minutes, Huron OPP officers arrived on scene and located the accused on the motel property. He was placed under arrest and taken into custody without incident. Upon searching the man, officers located a quantity of methamphetamine in his pocket. Additionally, once the man was identified, it was determined he was currently serving a probation sentence.

As a result, 37-year-old Timothy RENAUD of Goderich has been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine), Assault, Mischief Under $5,000, and two counts of Fail to Comply with a Probation Order. He remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich, March 18.

NEIGHBOURS WATCHING OUT FOR NEIGHBOURS

(GODERICH, ON) -  A sharp-eyed neighbour’s call to police led to the arrest of a 23-year-old Goderich resident earlier this week.

At approximately 10:35 p.m., March 7, Huron County OPP officers received a call about a young man who was seen rummaging through vehicles that were parked on Cambridge Street. The caller observed the suspect enter his neighbour’s vehicle and he found this to be suspicious. He yelled at the suspect and upon doing so, the suspect took off running. The witness immediately called police and provided a description of the fleeing suspect to the officers.

Officers began patrolling for the suspect and within a few minutes, they found him at the intersection of Hincks Street and Britannia Road East. Officers were able to positively identify the suspect and an arrest was made. Officers searched the man and found him to be in possession of loose change and a gift card that were stolen from the vehicle.

The suspect was also found to be intoxicated in a public place. As a result, 23-year-old Andrew FICKLING of Goderich has been charged with Theft Under $5,000 From a Motor Vehicle and Being Intoxicated in a Public Place. He was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for April 18.
