It was a battle to the finish but the Kinetic Knights Robotics Team 781's robot, "Duncan," was up to the task as it and its alliance partners stormed the FIRST Stronghold, bringing gold back to Kincardine from the Buckeye Regional in Cleveland, Ohio, on the weekend.
The team competed in qualification matches Friday, ending the day with five wins and two losses, and ranked in third place. Following Saturday's qualifiers, the team had six wins and three losses and was in 10th place.

During alliance selection, the Kinetic Knights were chosen by Team 4039, Makeshift Robotics, of Hamilton (the only other Canadian team at the regional) to join Alliance 1, along with Team 4121, Viking Robotics, of North Canton, Ohio.
Alliance 1 defeated all the competition, through the quarter-finals and semi-finals, right to the finals where it won the first match, lost the second match, but squeaked out a victory in the tie-breaking game, 119-118, for the regional win.

This means the Kinetic Knights are eligible to compete at the world championships in St. Louis, Missouri, in April.
Team 781 has competed at the worlds for the past five years. In 2011, the team was part of the Alliance that finished second at the world championships. In, 2012, the team won the Queen City Regional in Cincinnati, Ohio, and for the past three years, has been eligible by winning the Chairman's Award twice, and the Engineering Inspiration award.
