Traffic stop leads to major drug bust in Huron County

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) -  A traffic stop March 25, has resulted in one of the largest drug seizures in recent history for the Huron County OPP detachment.

At about 2:18 p.m., a Huron County OPP officer spotted two vehicles travelling in tandem, southbound on Kerry’s Line. One of the vehicles, a Jeep Cherokee, was pulling a trailer that contained an ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) and the other was a Dodge van. The officer followed the vehicles a short distance and watched as the vehicles pulled into a laneway located on Belfast Road. Upon stopping the vehicles, the investigating officer spoke with both drivers. The officer also checked on the status of the ATV to determine if it was a stolen machine as one had been reported stolen earlier that day.

During the course of the investigation, the officer determined the driver of the van was driving with a suspended driver's licence. The driver of the van was placed under arrest for Driving While Under Suspension. Further investigation led officers to search the van and the Jeep.

Upon searching both vehicles, officers located and seized 49 bags of packaged marijuana and cannabis resin, weighing in excess of 280 kilograms.

As a result of the investigation, the Huron OPP has charged the driver of the van, David FARRISH, 57, of Woolwich Township, with the following offences:

  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance (Marijuana) for the Purposes of Trafficking – Over three kilograms

  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance (Cannabis Resin) for the Purposes of Trafficking – Under three kilograms

  • Driving While Under Suspension – Two Counts

  • Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence

Also charged is 30-year-old Allen FERRILL of Kitchener.  He has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance (Marihuana) for the Purposes of Trafficking – Over three kilograms

  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance (Cannabis Resin) for the Purposes of Trafficking – Under three kilograms

Both have been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich April 4.

*THESE CHARGES HAVE YET TO BE PROVEN IN COURT*
