Community Foundation Grey Bruce has new executive director

Community Foundation Grey Bruce has a new executive director.

Stuart Reid, who has extensive experience rooted in arts, culture, community service, and organizational development, becomes the fifth executive director in the foundation’s 22-year history. He officially takes over in May.

“We were impressed with Stuart because of his proactive and positive approach," said Kim West, chairperson of the board of directors. "The recruitment team was inspired by his extremely organized manner and his wealth of experience in managing people, and we all feel his commitment to the Grey Bruce area will continue to raise our profile. This is a win-win partnership for our community: as we grow, many organizations benefit from our granting capability. We are very pleased to welcome Stuart to our team.”

Reid joins the foundation at an exciting time as a busy new granting season approaches and the organization is about to release its Vital Signs report on community health this October. Community Foundations of Canada is also preparing to partner with Community Foundation Grey Bruce to support a broad array of celebrations and commemorative projects associated with Canada’s sesquicentennial in 2017.

“I am inspired by the mandate of the foundation and look forward to serving a community that I proudly call home," said Reid. "It is my strong belief that solutions to the problems we face in our contemporary world will be found locally, through our efforts to build a healthier community and a stronger social fabric.”

Reid has more than 25 years of experience as a senior manager in the not-for-profit sector. From 2001-09, he was director of the Tom Thomson Art Gallery in Owen Sound. He comes to the foundation after serving for more than four years at Brock University in St. Catharines as director of Rodman Hall Art Centre.

An active community volunteer, he is presently on the board of the provincial service organization, Craft Ontario, and is a former president of the Ontario Association of Art Galleries. A graduate of York University in Toronto, he also completed the J. Paul Getty Trust’s Museum Leadership Institute training at the University of California at Berkeley in 2002.

He is an award-winning writer, having authored a long list of books and catalogues.
