The Penetangore Watershed Group is urging landowners to purchase trees for their property during the Tree Sale in Kincardine.
This sale is a part of a Tall Tree Initiative which has been very successful in other municipalities, including Saugeen Shores. More information about the program, itself, is available at http://www.talltreeinitiative.ca
This initiative was made possible through a successful grant application by the Penetangore Watershed Group to Bruce Power to be a corporate sponsor (a $4,500 grant) and a partnership with the Municipality of Kincardine's public works department matching the sponsorship of an additional $4,500 for this Tall Tree Sale in Kincardine. Residents can then buy the trees at a reduced cost - a service to residents while also increasing the tree count.
Trees that are still available include five-foot White Spruce ($80), 10-foot Locust-Skyline 45-40 mm ($80), and 13-foot Linden-Greenspire 60-70 mm ($90). The deadline to order is Wednesday, April 22 (with full payment).
If you are ordering trees:
This project is of great value to the municipality as it will receive nearly $18,000 in large caliper trees planted by residents on their property. The environmental value is incalculable.
If you do not have room on private property to plant a tree, perhaps you could purchase one as a donation to your favourite park.
The Penetangore Watershed Group will also be taking students tree planting May 13, from 9-11 a.m., on the 5th Concession, as part of a bigger project in partnership with the Pine River Watershed Initiative Network (PRWIN) - all are welcome to help.
