Kincardine volunteers receive Ontario Home and School Association awards

Officials with the Home and School Associations in Kincardine are pleased to announce that one of their own, Heather Padfield, has won the prestigious Col. R.S. McLaughlin Memorial award.

Padfield received the award at the Ontario Federation of Home and School Associations awards banquet, held Saturday in Brantford.

The award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated outstanding service to education by fostering co-operation between parents and teachers, and by promoting understanding between the home and the school.

Padfield's reputation in the Kincardine schools is legendary. She has served as president of Home and School Associations at Elgin Market, Huron Heights, and Kincardine District Secondary School. She also represented the group of schools on the Accommodation Review Committee in 2011-12.

She has been a volunteer in the schools since 1999 and has worked with other parents on bike rodeos, book fairs, staff appreciation luncheons, Grade 8 fund-raising campaigns, Christmas floats, and meet-the-staff barbecues. She has advocated at the board level to support students in their learning.

Her enthusiasm has inspired countless new volunteers to take leadership roles, and her ability to mentor others has significantly contributed to the succession plans within Home and School Associations in Kincardine.

Centennial Honours:
 

Three other volunteers from Kincardine were presented with Centennial Honours. On this, the 100^th Anniversary of the Ontario Federation of Home and School, several individuals were chosen in honour of this milestone.

The Centennial Honour was given to those who have made a significant contribution to the federation at the local level. The federation gave this award to Sylvia Leigh, Corinne Wolsey, and Lewis Cavasotto (accepted by his wife, Gwen).
