Walker House Heritage Dinner features Kincardine's love affair with the automobile

If you want to learn how Kincardine played an integral part in the invention of the automobile, come to the Walker House Heritage Dinner, featuring “Kincardine and the Automobile (A Love Story).”

 

Written by Graham Mahood (above), this is his sixth play performed in support of the Paddy Walker Heritage Society and Kincardine's oldest building, the Walker House. His previous shows, including "The War of 1812," "The His-story of Women," and last year's "Paddy Walker: The Lost Years, or How Paddy Walker Saved Canada and Transformed the World (A True Story)," have been hugely successful.

 

Mahood says some of the information for this play comes from his original story, “Motoring Through Time,” which was performed at a heritage dinner about five years ago.

 

“Starting about 10 years ago, we would do a Decade in Time at the annual heritage dinner," said Mahood. "But we had only so many decades, so we switched to doing historical plays.”
 

He has changed the play and added new stories to it, with photos of antique cars being projected on the screen throughout the show.

 

“There is a lot of singing in this play and less narrative,” says Mahood, “and the focus will be on the evolution of the car from the first automobile to the current time, in Kincardine and around the world. In fact, our assertion is that the automobile might not have been invented without the help of Kincardine. The audience will find out how Kincardine and the automobile first got together – it was quite a love affair.”

 

Performing in the show, are the extremely-talented Patt Lowry, Sid Duggan, Jaki Mayer-Duggan, Stacey Millar, Slayde Millar, John Low, Brian Tovey and Dylan Trahan. June Daniel will join Mahood in directing the show, with Michael Yun in charge of projecting the photos onto the screen.

 

Mahood appreciates everyone who has donated photos of vintage cars for the show.

 

“Kincardine and the Automobile (A Love Story)” will be performed Saturday, May 7, at the Kincardine Legion. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 6:30 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m.
