New ER doctor arrives in Kincardine this fall

Kincardine is getting a new full-time emergency room doctor this fall.

Following a closed session Wednesday night (May 3), Kincardine council announced it had approved an agreement with Dr. Anna Czyrny, effective September, 2016.

In a press release, chief administrative officer Murray Clarke says Czyrny's arrival will provide much-needed relief for the Kincardine physicians’ team.

Czyrny had completed her second-year family medicine residency at McMaster University Medical Centre and opted to further her training by completing a self-designed rural family medicine fellowship in emergency room medicine, finishing in February, 2016.

During the additional training, it became apparent that her passion was for emergency medicine.

Since February, Czyrny has provided locum (temporary) coverage in the Kincardine emergency department. She and her husband, John, plan to relocate to Kincardine in September. Until then, she will continue locum coverage at the Kincardine hospital.

“Kincardine has many wonderful attributes," says Czyrny. "Not only are the people warm, the scenery is spectacular. In my short time here, I have had the privilege of meeting wonderful people who made my choice to come to Kincardine easy. As a locum at the hospital, I really felt that we were working as a team for the benefit of our patients. I am very excited to be a part of the community and to provide the best care possible.”

On behalf of the physicians' group in Kincardine, Dr. MIke Ballantyne expressed thanks to the municipality and to Bruce Power for their ongoing assistance in physician recruitment.

Kincardine mayor Anne Eadie is thrilled to have another doctor coming to Kincardine so quickly.

"Also thanks to the Kincardine physicians and other staff at the medical clinic for making various accommodations to meet the health needs of our residents during the current recruitment process.”

The hiring of Czyrny was made possible by the Kincardine physician recruitment program which is supported by a partnership that includes Bruce Power and the Town of Saugeen Shores.
