(HURON COUNTY, ON) – The Huron County OPP Auxiliary Unit is absolutely thrilled to report that its recent “Toy & Toiletry Collection” was an astounding success.
Saturday, April 30, members from the Huron and Elgin OPP Auxiliary Units were stationed at the Goderich Wal-Mart collecting donations for the Huron Women’s Shelter.
The five-hour collection period resulted in officers being able to completely fill a full-size Ford F-250 pick-up truck with an assortment of items all destined for families living at the Huron Women’s Shelter. In addition to the donated clothes, toys, toiletries and household items, officers collected $1,500 in cash. The cash was then used to purchase gift cards that will be, in turn, distributed to the families in need.

Officers were also busy showing off the police truck to the youngsters who stopped by to sit in the vehicle and pose for pictures with the officers
“Watching the community fully support this initiative with such selflessness, generosity and compassion, was a very humbling experience,” says organizer Huron OPP auxiliary constable Patty VanderMeer.
“The support and care of the community, Wal-Mart, and the OPP this past weekend, was nothing short of tremendous," says Donna Jean Forster-Gill, executive director of the Huron Women's Shelter. "The kindness and generosity shown to women and children through donations of gift cards, household items and toiletries, is so appreciated. Each day, these items will bring a smile to someone’s face – and that makes a difference!”
