Lucknow man has court date for alcohol charge

(GODERICH, ON) – A call to police regarding a possible impaired driver has led to the arrest and charge against a driver from Bruce County.

Just before 5 p.m., May 1, Huron County OPP officers began patrolling for the suspected impaired driver who was observed travelling southbound on Bluewater Veterans Highway in an erratic manner.

A Huron OPP officer located the suspect vehicle, a Chevrolet Impala, exiting out of a gas station parking lot onto Anglesea Street East in Goderich. A traffic stop was initiated and while speaking with the driver, police noted he had consumed some alcohol.

A roadside screening test was completed which resulted in the driver registering a fail. He was placed under arrest for Driving a Motor Vehicle With Over-80 Milligrams of Alcohol and was transported to the Huron OPP detachment for breath tests. He later provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both of his samples registered over the legal limit.

As a result, 22-year-old Tyler SMITH of Lucknow has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over-80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for June 6, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. He also received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

*THIS CHARGE HAS YET TO BE PROVEN IN COURT*
