Bervie W.I. learns about osteoporosis at May meeting

Osteoporosis was the theme when the Bervie Women's Institute met at the hall Wednesday evening, May 4.

President Sylvia Hasbury led with the usual openings. Eight members and three visitors answered the Roll Call – "Something I do to keep my bones strong."

Convener Janice Hewitt then introduced Christine MacDonald of Kincardine who gave us an interesting presentation on osteoporosis – what causes the loss of bone density, what foods we can eat to strengthen our bones, and exercises that are very important to keep our bones strong. Also important to remember: taking Calcium and Vitamin D supplements, as needed, and being aware of fall risks in your home and outside areas.

Volunteer awards will be presented to six of our members at the Owen Sound Collegiate Vocational Institute (OSCVI) in Owen Sound, June 10, at 7:30 p.m.

The Plant, Yard and Bake Sale will be held at the Bervie Hall, Saturday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to Noon.

Several members will attend the District Annual in Southampton, Thursday, May 26.

The next meeting will be at the hall, June 1, at 7 p.m.
