The Kincardine District Secondary School Grade 11 class is hosting a Relay for Life Youth Event, June 2, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine, with all proceeds to the Canadian Cancer Society.
The students are inviting members of the community to join in by being participating fully in the relay or in part by attending one or both of its ceremonies. If individuals would like to participate in the relay, the registration is at KDSS during lunch at the “T”. There is also an on-line registration at relayforlife.ca/KDSS under student event.
The Relay for Life official organizing committee runs two ceremonies during this event. One is the survivor’s lap which kick-starts the day. Anyone who has had cancer or is still living with cancer is welcome to take part in this walk of celebration and hope.
The second is the luminary ceremony which will be conducted in the arena at 1 p.m. Participants are given a luminary (a white lunch bag containing a flameless tea light) on which they write the name of someone who had cancer or is living with cancer (known as a celebration) or a loved one who died of cancer (memorial). These luminaries will be placed around the arena to be viewed by all.
