Community Foundation Grey Bruce welcomes Governor General of Canada Friday
Community Foundation Grey Bruce will welcome His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston (R), Governor General of Canada, Friday at noon in Owen Sound, to celebrate the foundation’s accomplishment of being on target to meet the governor general’s “Smart and Caring” Education Initiative, launched in 2011 shortly after he took office.

The foundation's initiative directly responds to all four pillars of education: university, college, apprenticeships, and workplace training programs, and its "Smart and Caring" education endowment fund nears $1.75-million needed to support youth and mature students throughout the community.

The governor general’s "Smart and Caring Communities" is a landmark effort that brings Canada’s community foundation movement together in building a “Smart and Caring Nation.” The initiative safeguards communities across the country, allowing them access to dedicated resources that can respond to local priorities.

"Our accomplishment is one of the most exhilarating experiences we have encountered in our history," says foundation chairperson Kim West.

The governor general has said, “Imagine our country as it could be … a smart and caring nation, where all Canadians can succeed, contribute and develop their talents to their fullest potential.” This visit marks the foundation's accomplishment with Canada’s 150th birthday next year.

The foundation makes giving easy - an endowment fund is an excellent way to encourage your family’s tradition of caring. Please contact the foundation to donate any gift, large or small, and support those causes you care about.
