Ideal weather for Kincardine to host CWOSSA track and field for the first time
The weather was ideal Wednesday and Thursday as Kincardine hosted the Central Western Ontario Secondary Schools Association (CWOSSA) track and field championships at the Davidson Centre track for the first time.
Co-ordinator Carrie Houghton was thankful for the sunny, cool weather and for the many volunteers who helped put on the event. The last time Kincardine hosted CWOSSA was about 10 years ago but it was held in Kitchener because the Davidson Centre track was not in good shape at the time.
Kincardine District Secondary School had 30 athletes at CWOSSA, facing off against hundreds of others from across the Central Western Ontario region, in high jump, pole vault, hurdles, steeplechase, long jump, shot put, javelin, discus, and running races and relays.
Of those 30 athletes, four have advanced to the Ontario Federation of Secondary Athletics Associations (OFSAA), to be held Friday and Saturday, May 27-28, in Cambridge. These athletes include Madelyn Eybergen, Cailyn McKay, Craig Luinstra, Janelle Smeltzer.
