MARINE UNIT FINDS SAFETY VIOLATIONS ON THE WATER
(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – June 4, the South Bruce OPP Marine Unit was out on Chesley Lake and the Saugeen River along with a conservation officer from the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.
The officers found a number of violations; five boaters were charged for no personal flotation device, two were charged for having open alcohol, and one was charged for fishing with no licence.
The South Bruce OPP Marine Unit encourages boaters to enjoy the water this summer, but do it safely; always ensure you have the required safety equipment onboard before you leave the dock.
Anyone interested in more information on safe boating, can view the Transport Canada website at: www.tc.gc.ca/media/documents/marinesafety/TP-511e.pdf.
CRA SCAMS NET THOUSANDS
(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – The South Bruce OPP is reminding residents to be cautious with unsolicited phone calls, following reports of successful scams from residents in the Municipality of Kincardine and the Municipality of Brockton.
Following a phone call from the “Canada Revenue Agency,' asking for immediate payment or the RCMP would be sent to make an arrest, a number of iTunes cards were purchased to make the required “payment.” In both cases, the amount “paid” was more than $5,000.
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is a real agency, but it does not contact you looking for personal information, it doesn't demand immediate payment, and it does not threaten you with arrest or prison.
The CRA has a toll-free number of 1-800-959-8281 and the website can be viewed at: www.cra-arc.gc.ca/menu-eng.html for anyone wanting more information.
The South Bruce OPP is requesting anyone with information that can assist police to call 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit a secure web-tip at www.crimestoppersgb.ca, where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
