Kincardine Special Olympian brings home medals from Provincial Spring Games

Jackie McDonald (above) of Kincardine brought home three medals from the Special Olympics Provincial Spring Games, held May 26-28 in Guelph.

She won gold in 50-metre backstroke, silver in 50-metre freestyle, and silver in 50-metre breast stroke. This qualifies her to go on to the National Summer Games next year in Winnipeg; however, there is a selection process, so she must wait to find out if she has been chosen to join Team Ontario.

Besides swimming, the spring games include five-pin bowling, 10-pin bowling, power-lifting, basketball and rhythmic gymnastics.

After winning gold in curling at the National Winter Games in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, in January, and gold and silver at the Provincial Spring Games, McDonald is now concentrating on summer sports – bocce and track and field.
