POLICE INVESTIGATING OVERNIGHT BREAK-IN
(KINCARDINE, ON) – June 18, at 7:59 a.m., the South Bruce OPP received the report of a break-in at a residence in the 800 block of Walsh Street in Kincardine.
Sometime between 10 p.m. June 17, and 7:50 a.m. June 18, the residence was forcibly entered. The list of items taken includes a single-hand crossbow, gold rings, DVD collection, coin collection, 32” Element flat screen TV, 22” RCA flat screen TV, Ace .22-calibre rifle with brown stock, and a Cooey .22-calibre rifle with brown stock. The value of the stolen property is estimated to be more than $2,000.
POLICE INVESTIGATING DAYTIME BREAK-INS
(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – The South Bruce OPP is investigating two reports of daytime break-ins June 17:
During daylight hours, a residence in the 900 block of Park Place in Huron Township was forcibly entered. The list of items taken includes diamond earrings, gold rings and gold necklaces. The value of the stolen property is estimated to be more than $20,000.
Also during daylight hours, a residence in the 600 block of Lynden Crescent in Kincardine was forcibly entered. The list of items taken includes an assortment of rings. The value of the stolen property is estimated to be more than $10,000.
Suspicious vehicles and suspicious people should be reported to police as soon as possible so that an officer can investigate.
HOME SECURITY TIPS
(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – In light of the recent break-and-enters reported in the detachment area, the South Bruce OPP is offering homeowners some tips to help protect their property:
Tall trees, shrubs and fences create hiding spots for criminals - keep your landscaping neatly groomed and consider a shorter fence.
Lock the doors and windows, even if you’re going out for a short time; consider using quality locks and a deadbolt on each outside door.
Keep the grass cut or keep the driveway shovelled and don’t let the mail accumulate if you’re going to be away.
Engrave identifying marks on your property - this makes it easier for police to identify your belongings if they are stolen.
Make sure the outside lights work and use them to deter low-light visitors.
Know your neighbours and watch for suspicious people or activity on your block.
Don’t leave valuables in plain sight and don’t hide a spare house key outside.
If you’re planning a trip, be careful who you tell; try not to advertise your absence with electronic or answering machine messages.
Break-ins are a crime of opportunity, that you can help control. Suspicious vehicles or people should be reported to police as soon as possible so that an officer can investigate.

SCHOOL’S ALMOST OUT FOR THE SUMMER
(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – In just a week, students will be out on summer break and the South Bruce OPP would like to see them enjoy the summer months safely. We can expect an increase in the amount of pedestrian traffic as youth take to the streets and sidewalks on scooters, in-line skates, skateboards and bicycles.
The South Bruce OPP is offering the following tips for a safe and enjoyable summer:
Slow down and drive with care, especially near parks and recreation centres
Use crosswalks or intersections to cross streets safely; never step out into traffic between parked cars
Bicycle helmets are required by law and reduce the risk of head injury by 85 per cent when worn properly
Ensure that swimmers are always properly-supervised
Never leave pets or children unattended in a hot car
Follow your children on-line; if you’re not connected with them, who is?
Parents and caregivers are asked to review safety rules with their youth. Summer time may be a break from learning, but it can’t be a break from safety.
