Piping of the Tartan kicks off summer events in Kincardine

The second annual Piping of the Tartan parade marched through downtown Kincardine, Saturday morning, kicking off the summer events season.

Joining the organizers of the Kincardine Scottish Festival and Highland Games, which runs next weekend, July 1-3, were representatives of the Bruce Telecom Lighthouse Blues Festival, which runs July 3-10, the Lakeside Downtown Business Improvement Area (BIA) and the Kincardine and District Chamber of Commerce.

The Teeswater Highlanders Pipe Band led the parade, from the Kincardine Legion to Victoria Park where a crowd gathered to celebrate Kincardine's Scottish heritage, and to look forward to a summer filled with great events.

On behalf of Kincardine mayor Anne Eadie, Kincardine Fall Fair ambassador Hailey Allen welcomed everyone and encouraged all to have a great summer.

Irelyn Nixon, 7, of Kincardine performed Irish dancing, followed by entertainment by Tony and the Islanders.
