Kincardine to host ribbon-cutting for portable recreation path at Station Beach
The Municipality of Kincardine will hold an official ribbon-cutting and cheque presentation ceremony for the Station Beach portable recreation path - Mobi-Mat® Beach Access Mat™ - Tuesday, July 5, at 3 p.m., at Station Beach in Kincardine.

The purchase of the Mobi-Mat® Beach Access Mat™ was made possible through the generous support of Bruce Power’s Community Investment and Sponsorship Program and the Rotary Club of Kincardine Rotary Club (in partnership with the Kincardine Agricultural Society and Community Foundation Grey Bruce).

Mobi-Mat® Beach Access Mats™ (photos courtesy of Kincardine Tourism) are portable, durable roll-out mats designed to enhance mobility for pedestrians, individuals experiencing mobility-related disabilities, and wheelchair and stroller users. The mat provides a portable walkway across the sand, allowing for easy access to the water.

Each of the partners in the initiative recognizes the benefits of an inclusive community.

"The natural beauty of our beaches should be barrier-free for all our citizens and visitors," says Jennifer White, president of the Rotary Club. "It is our belief that this project will inspire other local businesses and stakeholders in Kincardine to consider how they can improve accessibility within the community and promote Kincardine as an accessible community.”

“At Bruce Power, we strongly believe in breaking down barriers for people with disabilities," says James Scongack, vice-president, corporate affairs, at Bruce Power. "We are proud to be involved in this initiative with our partners at the Municipality of Kincardine, to make beautiful Station Beach more accessible to all.”

“This achievement highlights the Municipality of Kincardine’s commitment to enhanced accessibility of our public spaces,” says Kincardine mayor Anne Eadie.

The Accessibility Advisory Committee has been championing this initiative to provide residents and visitors with increased accessibility at the beach, and to create a welcoming destination for individuals with mobility issues. The Mobi-Mats will be in place each year around the last week of June and stored for the winter around Labour Day.

An update from Kincardine Tourism Tuesday (June 28), states that the Mobi-Mats have been removed temporarily. They will be repositioned away from the water’s edge next week. There were problems with the one being flipped up because it is too close, so they will be moved back.
