Purple Grove W.I. learns about Bruce Botanical Food Gardens in Ripley

The June meeting of the Purple Grove Women's Institute was held at the community centre.

Members and guests answered the Roll Call, which was about remedies for removing ants from the house.

The May Day-Out fun trip was discussed. Cheryl Bridge and Janet Nixon were thanked again for all their work in planning such a great day.

A Community Bridal Shower for Maxene Clark was announced for June 11. Fran Farrell reported on the successful Caregiver Support Training that was held in Ripley on June 1. This seminar was sponsored by the Federated Women’s Institutes of Ontario.

Marilyn Reid gave a summary of the Bruce County W.I. District Annual. New Women’s Institute signs were discussed and orders were taken. Marilyn was to host the planning meeting June 23.

Convener Janet Nixon had some readings and then introduced Lynne Taylor (above, left, with Janet Nixon) of the Bruce Botanical Food Gardens. She was so interesting, as she gave an account about the gardens in Ripley. The gardens are totally organic, and volunteers are planting heirloom plants so that our food can be secure. Janet thanked Lynne who was then gracious enough to answer a multitude of questions from the ladies present.

President Janet Rhody thanked everyone who participated in the meeting – the hostess, Mary Anne, and the lunch providers, Cheryl Bridge and Brenda de Leeuw.
