The following letter from Kincardine resident Ken Texmo, was printed in The Toronto Star
To the Toronto Star:
It made my day to read that George Stroumboulopoulos was leaving and Ron MacLean was coming back to replace him at "Hockey Night in Canada." What took Rogers so long?
Strombo was a disaster trying to be a hockey guru. He was uneasy discussing hockey with other commentators, and tried to hide his lack of knowledge with his silly remarks.
The man could not even read off the teleprompter. He was seen many times trying to get his facts from the prompter.
MacLean is and has always been Mr. TV Hockey. His knowledge of hockey and all pertinent areas could not be challenged by anyone.
I couldn’t stand watching or listening to Strombo, so I would set my alarm for 7:40 p.m. so I could turn on the game and watch MacLean and Don Cherry on Coach’s Corner. As soon as that segment was over, I would leave "Hockey Night in Canada" and go back to a movie that I had been watching. My ritual continued throughout the hockey season.
I never watched one playoff game after all the Canadian teams were gone. I was glad that I taped the last game because I could fast forward through the segments with Strombo, and then enjoy the game and MacLean's and Cherry’s remarks at the end. The final game was good and I’m glad that I taped it.
I, along with many of my friends, will be so glad to see MacLean return to his rightful spot on "Hockey Night in Canada." It can’t happen quickly enough.
