Bruce Power Beach Party this Saturday in Port Elgin

Bruce Power is inviting the community to celebrate summer at its annual beach party, being held Saturday, July 16, at Port Elgin’s main beach.

 

Scheduled from 4-10 p.m., the event is one of the ways Bruce Power says thanks to the community for its ongoing support.

 

“We are very fortunate to operate in such a supportive community, but it’s something we’ll never take for granted,” says James Scongack, vice-president of corporate affairs. “Our annual beach party gives us the opportunity to say thanks to local residents and visitors, while enjoying a day of activities and food on the beach, topped off with a fantastic fireworks show at dusk.”

 

Back by popular demand is the Superhero Show, featuring Spidey and the Caped Crusader, where the little ones can come dressed as their favourite hero. The Princess Show is back as well, featuring Tink and the princesses from Frozen and Aladdin. Other activities include bouncing castles, face-painting, rock-climbing walls, an obstacle course, a kite-flying demonstration and much more.

 

A Native Drum Group will perform on the main beach, while a parade featuring the Penetangore Pipe Band starts from the harbour parking lot and makes its way down Harbour Street to the beach. There will be beef-on-a-bun, veggie burgers and hot dogs with cold drinks in the main tent beginning at 6 p.m. Dignitaries will give official welcomes at 6:30 p.m.

 

Port Elgin-based Midtown Cross will perform a blend of Blues and Rock on the main stage until the Beach Party’s annual wrap-up, a spectacular fireworks display at dusk.

 

The third annual Scott FireFit Championship will also be held in the north harbour parking lot from July 15-17, and will feature firefighters performing tasks commonly faced during emergency situations.

 

Shuttle buses start at 3:30 p.m. from Saugeen District Secondary School, The Plex and Wal-Mart parking lots, and will run until after the evening fireworks display. Partygoers are encouraged to walk or use the buses as traffic to the Main Beach will be restricted.
