Huron-Kinloss mayor Mitch Twolan has announced he will seek a third term as warden of Bruce County. The announcement was made July 7, when the county council meeting was held in the township council chamber.
Twolan says he has unfinished business he would like to see completed which is why he would like to continue for a third consecutive year at the county helm.
"I want to see the natural gas project through," he says, "and Ontario Power Generation (OPG)'s Deep Geologic Repository for low- and intermediate-level nuclear waste in Kincardine. Plus, 2017 is Bruce County's 150th anniversary so it will be an exciting year of events."
The last time a Bruce County warden held the position for three consecutive terms, was 134 years ago, when Kinloss reeve Robert Purves won for a third time in 1882. From then on, most wardens have served for a two-year term and then stepped aside.
Twolan says he would not be able to make this announcement without the support of his family and Huron-Kinloss council and staff.
So far, no other mayor in Bruce County has declared an interest in running for warden. The election of a new warden is held in December.
If elected, this would be Twolan's fourth term as warden, having served in 2007, as well as the past two years.
