Norma Hoover of Kincardine celebrates her 100th birthday

Norma Hoover of Trillium Court Seniors' Community, Kincardine, celebrated her 100th birthday, Thursday afternoon, surrounded by family, friends, residents and staff.

Her actual birthday was Wednesday, Aug. 3, but she will be marking the occasion for another few days, as her entire family is gathering Sunday, Aug. 14, to celebrate.

After she had cut the huge birthday cake, made by Karen Shanks, Norma said she is feeling good, but she certainly does not feel a century old.

When asked her secret to longevity, she just smiled and said she isn't sure, but here she is at 100 years of age. Perhaps she has lived a long, happy life because she was always busy, working, snowmobiling, and camping. She now enjoys visiting with family and friends, and looking through her many photograph albums.

Born in Caledonia, Aug. 3, 1916, Norma and her husband, Wes, operated an oil-distribution company. They retired to Kincardine in 1989 where they lived for several years on Princes Street, and where she continued to live after he died until moving to Trillium Court.

They had two sons: Doug and his wife, Cheryl, who live in Vancouver, British Columbia; and Ken and his wife, Shirley, who are both deceased.

Norma has five grandsons and six great-grandchildren, all of whom she hopes to visit with, and celebrate her 100th birthday with, Aug. 14.
