Kincardine CAO recognized for 35 years of municipal service

Kincardine chief administrative officer Murray Clarke (above, left, with Kincardine mayor Anne Eadie) has been recognized for 35 years in municipal service.

May 31, Clarke received his pin at the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators (CAMA) Long-Service Awards Luncheon, held at the annual conference in Winnipeg.

In a letter to Eadie, Don MacLellan, CAMA president, asked the municipality to recognize Clarke for his ongoing support of the municipal profession, and for the part he continues to play in helping to make the CAMA the leading organization in fostering and sustaining municipal excellence.

At the Kincardine council meeting Wednesday night (Aug. 3), Eadie attached the 35-year service pin to Clarke's suit jacket and congratulated him on his commitment to the municipality and to the association.

"You have brought a lot of wisdom and experience to Kincardine and we are very grateful," she said.
 

Originally from Fergus, Clarke's first job was working for the City of Toronto part-time while he was going to school. He then spent two years in a municipal administrative apprenticeship at the Township of Georgian Bay, sponsored by the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs, and was then hired by the township as assistant clerk.
 

Two years later, he became clerk-administrator at Erin Township, and following a reorganization there, he became CAO. He held that job for 12 years before becoming the CAO of Bracebridge in the District of Muskoka.

Eleven years later, he became CAO of Sidney, British Columbia, where he worked until February, 2012, when he came to Kincardine.
