Carrie Ann Kent is keynote speaker for International Women's Day
Women’s House Serving Bruce and Grey is pleased to announce that Carrie Ann Kent will be the keynote speaker at the International Women’s Day celebration, Saturday, March 28, at the Lakeshore Recreation Centre in Port Elgin.

"Some of you may know Carrie as she is a strong advocate for victims' rights and healing," says Tiffany Love, community and fund development co-ordinator for the Women's House. "Having written a biography titled, 'My Innocence Lost,' she will have some pretty powerful and inspiring words to share with us.”

In 2013, Kent co-founded the non-profit organization, Butterfly Healing, which offers support and innovative therapy programs to survivors of sexual violence. Her personal experience with healing is something she willingly shares with others in the hope that they, too, will find true happiness and peace. She is an inspiration to all who meet her and her story is a symbol of hope, strength and resiliency. Through her book and organization, she hopes to empower others to seek healing and happiness in their lives.

In addition to this, Women’s House is bringing a new and exciting live auction to International Women’s Day. The first item up for grabs is a white gold amethyst-and-diamond necklace donated by Wendt’s Jewellery in Mildmay.
“Purple is the colour for International Women’s Day so it’s very exciting and fitting to bring such a beautiful item to our event,” says Love, “ We are extremely grateful for the support of Wendt’s Jewellery.”
To keep updated on items being added, make sure you watch the Women’s House Facebook page three weeks before the event.

Another new feature this year is a trivia game. Prove your trivia knowledge for a chance to win a prize - proceeds go to support Women’s House.

And Grace Dance Academy of Kincardine will be introducing the "One Billion Rising" movement. This is a Global campaign to end violence against women, rise for justice and promote gender equality. Women join together in dance, in a show of collective strength.

This event is a celebration, and is also one of the major fund-raisers for Women’s House, says Love. "The purchase of a ticket is not only going to provide you with an afternoon filled with great food and entertainment, but also the chance to support a worthy cause in our community."

Tickets for this event are $45 each; available at United Way in Owen Sound, Lakeshore Recreation and Ralph’s Hi-Way Shoppette in Port Elgin, Gordon Pharmasave in Kincardine or by calling Love at Women’s House, 519-396-9814, Ext.225.
