It was an exciting moment for the owners, the staff, and a crowd of shoppers, as No Frills opens its doors in Kincardine, Friday morning.
Located on the site of the Zehrs store which closed July 5, No Frills is owned and operated by Andrew Dykeman and Jessica Meadows.
During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Joe Spagnolla, vice-president of operations for No Frills, said this was a big day for Dykeman and Meadows.
"We are pleased to bring No Frills to Kincardine," he said. "We have great products at great prices. This will be great for the community."
Kincardine mayor Anne Eadie said she could feel the excitement as she walked in the door.
"I expect you'll be extremely busy today, but your employees have been trained and are ready for this day," she said. "We have lots of room in the Municipality of Kincardine for another grocery store. I'm glad you were able to open before the Christmas season and best wishes."
Bill Strong brought congratulations on behalf of Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb's office. "All the best and I expect you'll do well in this community."
Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson said this was an awesome morning for Kincardine.
"I was disappointed when Zehrs closed in this location in the summer," she said. "But now we have this beautiful new store, and 80 jobs have been generated through your investment here. Small business is big business; thank you for helping to keep the people employed in Huron-Bruce."
Dykeman thanked the municipality for allowing him to open the No Frills sore in Kincardine.
"Jessica and I are excited to become part of the community," he said, "and make a difference in the lives of the people here."
He thanked everyone who worked on the store and got it ready to open by Friday morning.
'We are so excited to get going today," he said. "Welcome to all our staff, we look forward to working with you. Thanks to everyone who worked on this project. And thanks to our family and friends for being here and supporting us today."
The doors were then opened to a crowd of shoppers who were eager to check out the new store.
No Frills will be open Sunday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
