Crowd tours tall ships during Marine Heritage Festival in Kincardine

The Toronto Brigantine tall ships, Pathfinder and Playfair, managed to reach Kincardine Harbour Friday, in time for the third annual Marine Heritage Festival on the weekend.

The ships ran into some rough weather and were unable to arrive Thursday night. Playfair sailed into the harbour Friday morning, followed by Pathfinder Friday afternoon.

That evening, they sailed back out onto Lake Huron for a sunset cruise.

Saturday, a good crowd came to the harbour for tours of the ships and to ask the crew members questions about the vessels, part of the Toronto Brigantine fleet that tours the Great Lakes in the summer, teaching young people how to sail. People were also invited to tour the Mysis Rescue boat and the OPP Rescue boat, and visit Artisan's Alley where a number of local artists and crafters showcased their talents.

In Macpherson Park, youngsters enjoyed several activities, including a duck race, boat-making, a photo booth, Shark Attack game, ring toss, and more.

The public was also invited to tour the Kincardine Lighthouse and the Walker House to learn about Kincardine's marine heritage.

The ships remained in Kincardine until Sunday, when they headed out on their final trip before the end of the summer season.
