Six girls compete to become this year's Kincardine Fall Fair ambassador

Six girls have entered the competition to become the next Kincardine Fall Fair ambassador. The contest is slated for Friday, Sept. 2, at 7 p.m., at the Connaught Park Pavilion.

RAZA HUSSEIN

Raza is the 17-year-old daughter of Meher Hussein and Rizwana Batool of Kincardine. She is going into Grade 12 at Kincardine District Secondary School and has volunteered with the South Bruce Grey Health Centre - Kincardine hospital auxiliary and the KDSS Christmas Knights. She works at Two Guys Fresh Cut Fries, and enjoys going on bike rides, reading, and spending time with family and friends. She plans to go to university and study business or computer science. She is sponsored by Linda Bowers.

ASHLEY McCONNELL

Ashley (right) is the 17-year-old daughter of Mark and Rosanne McConnell of Kincardine. She participates in a number of 4-H clubs and enjoys playing hockey and showing cattle. She graduated from KDSS in June and plans to attend post-secondary school for bio-chemistry. She appreciates the support of her sponsor, Sleepers Bed Gallery.

DELAGE MOWLE

Delage (below) is the 17-year-old daughter of Kevin and Joan Mowle of Kincardine. She is a full-time summer camp counsellor at Silver Lake Camp, located northeast of Lucknow. She plans to return to KDSS in the fall. Her sponsor is Matchett Financial.

MAGGIE ROBINSON

Maggie is the 17-year-old daughter of Tracy and Paul Robinson of Kincardine. She is going into her senior year at KDSS and is a junior leader with the Ripley 4-H Conservation Club. She is also a member of the Teeswater 4-H Horse Club and the Ripley 4-H Beef Club. She has been a member of 4-H since she was 11 years old and has had many great opportunities and made many good memories. She curls with the Kincardine Curling Club and has had her horse, "Emmie," for five years. In addition, she volunteers with PRANCE in Port Elgin and at the Kincardine hospital gift shop. She is excited to be running for Kincardine Fall Fair ambassador, and is sponsored by Harvey Financial Solutions.

ALICE THORPE

Alice is the 17-year-old daughter of Jim Thorpe and Ruth Yalden Thorpe of Kincardine. She is going into Grade 12 at KDSS and has a 14-year-old sister, Lucy. She works at the Kincardine Day Camp and playground, and during the year, she works as a lifeguard/instructor at the Davidson Centre pool. She enjoys playing hockey, soccer and basketball and loves art. In previous years, she volunteered at the Relay for Life with her school, as an organizer, and has volunteered at the community event. She has also helped out with dinners at the United Church and has been volunteering in Home and School since she was five years old. In addition, she coached an Under-5 soccer team this summer. She is looking forward to the experience of running for ambassador. Her sponsor is The Co-Operators.

BELLE WILSON

Belle is the 16-year-old daughter of D'Arcy and Charlene Wilson of Kincardine. She has lived in Kincardine her whole life and is proud of it. She attends KDSS and has always been interested in having an effect on the community. She has done fund-raisers in the past for Free the Children and Make a Wish Foundation - both in and out of school, including dances, bake sales, and car washes. She has been involved in the community, as team captain for a Relay for Life team for four years, and spoke at this past year's event, helping to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society. She enjoys gymnastics, both competitively and with the high school team, and is on the school track and field team and swim team. She enjoys being part of school clubs, such as student's council and Free the Children. Her sponsor is Canadian Tire.
