Krista Young of Elmwood named Bruce County Queen of the Furrow
Krista Young of Elmwood is the new Bruce County Queen of the Furrow, winning the title, Friday afternoon, at the Bruce County Plowing Match. She will represent Bruce County at the 2017 International Plowing Match in Walton.

First runner-up was Laura Fullerton of Paisley; also competing, were Hillary Kempers of Paisley and Dakota Collins of Ripley.

The weather was sunny and warm, with a chilly breeze - perfect for the event held at the farm of Mike Pinkerton, just east of Tiverton on Bruce County Road 15.

"It was a very successful plowing match," said John Gillespie, treasurer of the Bruce County Plowmen's Association, which organizes the match every year. "There were 12 horse plowers and 33 tractor plowers. The competition was excellent with many good lands plowed."

The match included a cover crop and soil health demonstration, hosted by Tori Waugh of the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority, with Jim Boak of Salford Farm Equipment as the key speaker.  The demonstration was supported by Stoltz Farm Equipment, Roberts Farm Equipment, J&H Sales and Service, Huron Tractor, P&H Amberley, Sprucedale Agromart, Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority, Steve Ferris Farms, Barry Ribey and John Gillespie.

The beef barbecue lunch was popular again this year, and the association was pleased to welcome back Tom Evans who just won the Canadian Plowing Championship in the reversible plow class and will represent Canada at the 2017 world plowing championship in Kenya in December, 2017.
