Cassandra Ritchie (left, and above right, with Kincardine mayor Anne Eadie) of Community Living of Kincardine and District presented Pinwheels for Peace to Kincardine council, last night (Sept. 7), during the public forum portion of the council meeting.

Joined by Sona Carroll and Jane Hoy, staff members at Community Living, Cassandra said the goal was to remind Kincardine to pay special attention to Sept. 21 (the International Day of Peace) when hundreds of pinwheels will be planted in the Kincardine downtown gardens, the municipal administration centre, and the Davidson Centre.

"Kincardine council has given permission every year to put these pinwheels around Kincardine," said Cassandra, "and once again, we would like to thank you for supporting this project."

The pinwheels will be planted Sept. 20-21 and will be removed by Sept. 23, she said.

"Pinwheels for Peace is now happening in many different countries, and Kincardine is counted with them," said Cassandra. "Community members are writing thoughts about peace and love. Thinking about peace isn't just for one day! Each of us can make choices every day about how we decide to live with one another."

She said Community Living would like to see even more pinwheels this year, and urged everyone to make pinwheels with family and friends.

"You can plant them in the gardens around your home and on your lawn. Let's show our community that we can all work together to make peace an important issue in our community. Pinwheels spinning in the wind will spread thoughts and feelings about peace throughout Kincardine, the country and the world!"

Cassandra then presented the first pinwheel to mayor Anne Eadie, with more pinwheels available to all members of council.
