Kincardine unsuccessful in Bruce Telecom sale arbitration

The Municipality of Kincardine was unsuccessful in the recent arbitration, respecting the aborted sale of the Bruce Telecom assets to the Eastlink corporation. 

That was the word from Kincardine mayor Anne Eadie, at the council meeting Wednesday night (Sept. 7).

"By order of the arbitrator, the details of the decision are to remain confidential," Eadie told council. "As previously announced, the Municipality of Kincardine has committed to retain the business and to take appropriate steps to ensure its long-term viability for the benefit of our ratepayers."

Announced by Kincardine council January, 2014, the $26.5-million deal with Bragg Communications, operating as Eastlink, was scuttled in August, 2014, after the Competition Bureau refused to allow the sale, stating it would have likely resulted in higher prices and fewer choices for the residents of Port Elgin and Paisley.
