Three girls competing to become this year's Tiverton Fall Fair ambassador

Three girls are competing to become the new ambassador of the Tiverton Fall Fair which runs this weekend, Sept. 30 to Oct. 2.

RYLEE EVANS



Rylee, 16, is the daughter of Don and Renee Evans, and is proudly sponsored by Bruce Telecom. A student at Kincardine District Secondary School, she enjoys playing various sports throughout the year and is actively involved in clubs at KDSS including Student Council and the Debate Club. She also volunteers at The Harbour Church. In the future, she plans to attend university to study Kinesiology.


GINA SPIRIDAKI



Gina is the daughter of Angela Smythe and John Smith of Tiverton, and is proudly sponsored by Ken Jackson Construction Limited. She attends Sacred Heart High School in Walkerton where she is involved in many school clubs, such as Student Council, Yearbook, and Latergical Dance. She also works part-time at McDonald's. Gina enjoys photography, travelling and making people laugh. In the future, she hopes to attend university and study International Development.


HAILEY WOODS


 

Hailey, 17, is the daughter of Sharon and Chad Woods and lives in Tiverton. She is proudly sponsored by Chad Woods General Contracting and is currently attending Kincardine District Secondary School. Hailey works part-time at Sobeys and plays hockey and rugby. She enjoys travelling and recently returned from a three-month exchange in Italy. Next year, she hopes to attend college in the fall for pre-service firefighting.

The Ambassador of the Fair competition runs Friday at 8 p.m., followed by the auction of the award-winning pies and cakes at the fair. Also Friday night, is the All-Age Home Derby, a new event, with lots of great activities lined up.

Saturday begins with the Lions Breakfast from 8-10:30 a.m., as well as the Kids Tractor Pull at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., the new Trackless Train for ages three to 10, the Petting Zoo, Free Pony Rides, and Inflatable Bouncy Rides.

The parade begins at Noon and marches through downtown Tiverton, featuring the 2016-17 ambassador and runners-up, the Teeswater Highlanders Pipe Band, the Bruce Shriners motorcade, Trackless Train, clowns, floats, antique vehicles, the 2016 Canadian Reversible Plowing Champion, honourary directors, local dignitaries, and more.

Also at the fair, Saturday activities include the Lawn and Garden Tractor Pull, Poultry Show, Saddle Horse Show, Miniature Horse Show at 9 a.m., Farm Olympics at 1:30 p.m. on the front ball diamond, the Lions Cake Wheel, Girl Guide Barbecue Food Booth, Kids Corn Box and Face-Painting, Simulated Cow, Needle in a Hay Stack at 1 p.m. behind the poultry barn, Archery Challenge, and a demonstration by the Woodturners Guild.

Saturday only, the Main Event - Inflatables will be at the fair, featuring the 14-foot striker challenge, three-lane bungee run, two-person joust, harvest haunted maze, and zorb balls. For more information, check the website at www.maineventfun.com

The Fair Dance runs 9 p.m. to 1 p.m., to the music of Urban Rodeo.

Sunday brings many more great events. Following the community church service at 10 a.m. at the Whitney Crawford Community Centre, there is a Truck Pull at 12:30 p.m., on the track, and Fire Prevention Week at the Tiverton Fire Hall.

And new this year, the Tiverton Agricultural Society (TAS)Mania Food and Drink, Lifestyle Event at the Whitney Crawford Community Centre, from 1-4 p.m., featuring the Farmer Chili Cook-off. For more information and to enter this event, call 519-385-5021 or 519-368-2427.

At the lifestyle event, sample and vote for the best chili, enjoy Bruce County boy makeovers, and the following lifestyle demonstrations: Nutritional Snippet by Fine Fettle; Clean Your World by Laurie; Double-Trunk Quilt Show by Linda and Eleanor; Halloween Appetizers by Michelle; and Home Staging by Charlene of Coldwell Banker.
