Lively characters make appearances at Women's House 30th anniversary gala

It was a who's who from the 1986 Grammy Awards as a lively cast of characters arrived for the 30th anniversary Women's House Serving Bruce and Grey gala event, held Saturday, Oct., 15, at the TownePlace Suites Marriott Hotel in Kincardine.

Liberace got ready to hit the red carpet with Marilyn Monroe on his arm, while at the other end of the room, were Cyndi Lauper and Willie Nelson, Boy George and Bondie, Cher and Elton John, and many others.

The event began with a cocktail hour, with entertainment by "Good Vibrations," consisting of Paul Marshall, Maggie Torelli and Michael Walsh.

Women's House board chairperson Lori Harding welcomed everyone and introduced the MC, Penny Forbeck.

Following the buffet meal, there was a live auction with Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb as auctioneer. There was also a 30th anniversary Grammy Awards trivia game with significant prizes. And later, there was a golf simulator contest, with prizes.

Throughout the night, a silent auction was held, along with the elimination draw for major prizes, including diamond stud earrings from DC Taylor's in Owen Sound; a private earthly-infused wine- and food-tasting trip for up to four guests at Southbrook Vineyards; and Buddies in Bad Times Theatre tickets for two.

DJ Joe Carter kept the dance floor busy, as the crowd partied Grammy style.

The winners of the elimination draw, and the amount raised from the event have yet to be announced.
