Kincardine left in the dark and cold Thursday morning
Kincardine area residents were left in the dark and the cold, Thursday morning, Feb. 12, following a power outage that hit Kincardine, as well as about 6,000 customers in Tiverton, the surrounding rural area, Huron-Kinloss, Greenock, and
Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh.

A Hydro One spokesperson said there were two events.

The first happened at 4:57 a.m., when the power went out due to severe winds in the area which caused “galloping lines.”

Power was restored by 7:29 a.m., but linesmen were still monitoring the situation when, at 8:02 a.m., Hydro One had three customers still without hydro, as well as Westario Power which serves the Town of Kincardine.

All customers had power restored by 8:30 a.m.

Due to the power outage, area schools were closed and buses cancelled, and many businesses had a delayed start to their day.

Meanwhile, snow and high wind were also causing problems for motorists.

An accident on Highway 21 south of Pine River caused the closure of the highway between Kincardine and Amberley Thursday morning.

That section of road remained closed all day due to zero visibility and heavy drifting.
Police are reminding the public to drive safely and postpone any unnecessary travel, if possible.
