Huron OPP report impaired driver; and expired licence plate sticker nets charges

DANGEROUS DRIVER FOUND TO BE IMPAIRED BY DRUG

(GODERICH, ON) – A 27-year-old Watford man is facing several charges following a dangerous-driving incident that took place Nov. 1 in Goderich.

Shortly before 4 p.m., Huron County OPP officers received two reports about a vehicle being driven erratically southbound on Bluewater Veterans Highway (Highway 21) toward Goderich.

Witnesses observed the suspect vehicle, a Ford Fusion, travelling in the oncoming lane for a few hundred metres, forcing numerous vehicles off the roadway. At one point, the driver pulled the car over and spoke with one of the witnesses; but then continued driving into Goderich.

A Huron OPP officer spotted the suspect vehicle on Bayfield Road in Goderich and was able to complete a traffic stop. Upon speaking with the male driver, the investigating officer observed him displaying several signs of impairment. The driver was placed under arrest for Impaired Driving and was transported to the Huron OPP detachment where he was subjected to testing by a Drug Recognition Evaluator. The driver completed the tests and his ability to drive a motor vehicle was deemed to be impaired by drug.

A driver’s licence query also revealed the man was driving with a suspended driver’s licence. As a result, Dylan KAZUK, 27, of Watford, has been charged with Dangerous Driving, Impaired Driving, Drive While Under Suspension and Fail to Have Insurance Card. His court date has been scheduled for Dec. 19, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

In addition to his charges, his vehicle was impounded for seven days and he received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension.

EXPIRED VALIDATION STICKER LEADS TO NUMEROUS CHARGES

(GODERICH, ON) – A traffic stop for an expired licence plate sticker has led to numerous charges being laid against a 33-year-old Coatsworth man.

Saturday, Nov. 5, at approximately 4:35 p.m., a Huron County OPP officer observed a Ford F-150 pick-up truck travelling northbound on Victoria Street North with an expired validation sticker. The truck was subsequently stopped and the driver was questioned about the expired validation on his licence plate.

While speaking with the driver, the officer noted he had consumed some alcohol. As a result, a roadside screening test was completed and the driver registered a Fail. He was promptly placed under arrest for the offence of Drive Motor Vehicle with Over-80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He was later transported to the Huron OPP detachment where he provided two samples of his breath and both samples registered above the legal limit.

During the course of the investigation, officers also observed several long guns inside the pick-up truck. A subsequent check revealed the driver did not hold a valid licence to be in possession of the non-restricted shotguns and rifles. The firearms were seized and a further search was conducted which resulted in officers seizing open alcohol and illegal drugs.

s a result, Jeremy COOK, 33, of Coatsworth, has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle Over-80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Occupant of a Motor Vehicle Knowing There was a Firearm (6) counts, Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Codeine), Possession of a Schedule II Substance (Cannabis Marijuana), Driving Motor Vehicle With Open Container of Liquor, and Drive Motor Vehicle - No Validation on Plate.

He now has a court appearance scheduled for Dec. 5, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. His driver’s licence has been suspended for an automatic 90 days and his motor vehicle will be impounded for seven days.
