Ripley Ravens girls are champions at volleyball tournament in Owen Sound

The Ripley Ravens girls volleyball team won the Owen Sound District Secondary School elementary tournament, held Saturday in Owen Sound.

Ripley defeated its first opponents, Bruce Peninsula School, 25-22, 25-8, and Bayview of Owen Sound, 25-18, 25-8, in straight sets.

The girls then split with Beaver Valley, losing their only game of the tournament, 25-14, and rebounding to crush Beaver Valley, 25-3, in the second game and winning first place in their group.

In the quarter-final, Ripley faced Hillcrest of Owen Sound, and the girls' powerful and accurate serving proved to be too much for their opponent as the Ravens won two games straight, 25-12 and 25-10.

In the semi-final, Ripley played Georgian Bay School of Meaford which was no match for the Ravens’ serve receive, accurate serving, and blocking. The Ravens again won two games straight, 25-12 and 25-11, and advanced to the championship final for a rematch against their group opponent, Beaver Valley.

Ripley continued its strong serving and excellent passing in the final, with convincing victories over Beaver Valley, 25-15 and 25-12.

The girls dug in deep with excellent serving, passing and blocking, to finish the tournament with 11 wins and one loss. Way to go, Ravens!
