OPG provides $50,000 to Lake Huron Learning Centre for 2017
At the request of the Municipality of Kincardine, Ontario Power Generation (OPG) has announced $50,000 in funding for the Lake Huron Learning Centre in Kincardine, to help ensure its continued operation in 2017.

“Skills training at the Lake Huron Learning Centre helps to develop the workforce in Kincardine for jobs in our community,” says Kincardine mayor Anne Eadie. “We appreciate OPG’s bridge funding, which allows the centre time over the coming year to seek other sources of funding.”

“This support enables the centre to provide another year of programming, as we explore and develop new partnerships for the future,” says Larry Kraemer, chairman of centre, adding that the funding will go toward rent and utilities. “We are thankful for OPG’s many contributions over the past five years.”

OPG has sponsored the centre since it opened at 385 Queen Street, Kincardine, in 2011, offering post-secondary studies and skills training. Current courses include: Project Management, Payroll Administration, and a one-year certificate program for Personal Support Workers. The centre collaborates with Fanshawe College in delivering certificate programs.

In future, if OPG proceeds with a Deep Geologic Repository (DGR) for the long-term storage of low- and intermediate-level waste at the Bruce Nuclear site, it has agreed with the municipality, as host community, to fund a new Centre of Energy Excellence, which remains to be defined.

OPG generates safe, clean, reliable, low-cost power for Ontario. More than 99 per cent of this power is free of smog and greenhouse gas emissions. OPG's power is priced 40 per cent lower than power from other generators, which helps moderate customer bills.
