Lucknow Scouts donate to Women's House; fund-raise for CJ17

The 1st Lucknow Scouts celebrated 100 years of Cubs by giving back to the local community.

Members of the Scout troop and their leaders donated food and hygiene products to the Women's House Serving Bruce and Grey, making the presentation Sunday afternoon at the women's shelter in Kincardine.

The troop is also holding several fund-raisers next year to support two groups travelling to Nova Scotia for the Canadian Scout Jamboree 2017 (CJ17) in the summer.

"This a week-long camp for youth, aged 11-14," said leader Kevin Finnigan. "We have about 10 to 14 youth and six leaders planning to attend."

Finnigan said one of the Lucknow Scouts has been to a Jamboree before, back in 2013 in Calgary.

"The cost per youth is going to be about $1,200 to $1,500, which includes all expenses," said Finnegan. The troop is holding several fund-raisers, including the sale of Little Caesars Pizza kits; an Old-Fashioned Supper at the Kinloss Community Centre April 9; and a High Tea at the Lucknow United Church on Family Day in February; as well as a number of barbecues.
